Namibia

We specialize in off-road expeditions all around the world. Over the past 15 years we had been to 120 expeditions. (see more: www.offroadguide.eu). In 2008 we have discovered Namibia as one of our destinations, which is very close to our heart. Since that time we are organizing safari expeditions in off road cars to this amazing and unique country on the south of Africa.

Australia Morocco Libya Iceland

The starting point for our journeys is the capital city called Widhoek. We have prepared three main rounds: Adventure - wild life, Experience and Off Road, but we can also prepare safari: to the following locations...

With us you can discover the magical earth of Namibia - from high dunes of a desert called Namib Naukluft, through a rough Skeleton Coast, strange mountains of Damara Land, astonishing canyons of dried-up rivers in Koakoland which are full of wild game over to savanna from where you can see beautiful mountains and bush. It is just simply unforgettable beauty.

We prefer to take you to those places where one needs a Local Guide with Wildlife knowledge. And as it is the first time for some in the wild, it could get a bit tricky. We will take you to those remote places where one needs Special permits in advance and a Off Road Guide as the terein is very difficult to drive on. You will see very beautiful places not accessible to the everyday tourist with the extra bonus of handeling a powerful 4x4 offroad car. and your offroad driving skills improve as well... win win situation. We offer different dificulty levels of offroad driving. You can choose the one which fits you. We also offer tours through the spectacular Namib desert, which is a great adrenalin rush.

Accept Namibia you can also meet up with our guides Chobe, delta Okavango, Victoria Falls or Panama beaches on the south of Angola.

The group is always guided by Wild Life Guide from Damaro tribe and for Czech or Slovak tourists also Czech guide Off Road Guide.

Our expeditions are for individuals and groups up to 20 people (we managed also a group of 24 people in 12 cars). For the transport we always use Bush Campers which are terrain cars adapted to stay in the countryside. The cars are either Toyota or Nissan and ofcourse that they are air-conditioned. Cars are always equipped by one or two tents on the roof and comlete caming equipments. In these terrain cars you will discover all the beauties of Namibia plus you will cross the Namib desert Naukluf, depending on your own choice of a programm. The car is for pairs or four people it depends on you.

We camp in an expeditions style called Bush camp. That is a camp in wilderness which is the right adventure and you can see the game in their own environment. Normal camp behind a fance has nothing to do with this. But a normal camp has showers and camp in lodges also has the possibility of eating in the restaurants and accomodation in bungalows - hotel type. Again, it only depends on what type of programm you will choose.

What is about eating? Thanks to the well equipped cars (kitchen facilities, dining facilities, stove and refrigerator) is every group self-sufficient. And clients usually prefer to buy and eat whatever they feel like. Every crew makes their own breakfast, for lunch you usually grab some cold snack and in the evening we grill all together but everyone puts there the meet of their own choice. The food in Namibia is the same as in Europe with the same or a lower price. If you like meat, you will love it here because in every market is available first-class beef and also you can try some exotic meat from antelopes (kudu, oryx, impala) or some meat from ostrich and zebra. Our guide will help you with your shopping and he will show you those places where it is the best for shopping.
In the case of one interest in a closed group there is a possibility of all inclusive food, so the food will be provided to you whole day long. But the type of food doesn't always have to be the best choice for all of you. After 14 or more days not everyone feels like eating the same again and our participants usually prefer to make their own food.

Our motto is: We are organizing expeditions to the places which you want to see but you would not go there by yourself. You and a group of people, you all have the same interest, which is exploring foreign countries in a off-road car with a leadership of experienced guide, this is the team who will manage all the barriers which can surprise you on your way! And do you know why? Because your guide is prepared to deal with it, because he has gained many experiences in the past 15 years when he was the leader of 120 off-road expeditions in all corners of the world. In Namibia we work with a local guide from a Damaro tribe and with him you can uncover the places where normal tourist are not allowed to go. You will also meet aborigines with whom he is speaking in their own language so there is no barrier as there could be with the white guides...

Namibia is an overwhelming county in the south of African continent by the west coast. It is one of the least countries where you can find all the landscapes from the whole Africa in one place, from high dunes of a desert called Namib Naukluft, through a rough Skeleton Coast, strange mountains of Damara Land, astonishing canyons of dried-up rivers in Koakoland which are full of wild game over to savanna from where you can see beautiful mountains and bush. It is just simply unforgettable beauty.

Exactly at this place, where the wild game can move freely in the nature, only there you will get the feeling that you are an integral part of wilderness which will totally stupefy you. It is something completely different then the National parks where the game is used to the tourists. And mainly in this NP you are not alone but you have many tourists all around you.

The village of Himba tribe, whose children and women have red skin from clay and also Bushmen from San tribe are the most photogenic from the whole Namibia and maybe even in the whole Africa. They are very peaceful and amiable such are also the other tribes- Herero or Damaro. All the inhabitants are very nice people including the police which don't want to get unreasonable fines and bribes from you such it can be in other countries. It is the safest and cleanest place in the whole African continent in contrast with South Africa.

Namibia is in this direction really a different Africa!

Currency
N $ (NAD) Namibian Dollar is in force since 1990 and it is equivalent to the Southern African 1:1 dollar, which also in force in Namibia. One N $ is worth about CZK 2.50 and 1€ is about $ 10N. You can find exchange offices in all banks and in larger cities are widely ATMs.Travelllers cheques, foriegn currency and all major credit cards are accepted all over Namibia.

Since the Europeans are not required to enter with any required vaccinations. We require from our clients to reduce health risks by following vaccinations: Tetanus, Hepatitis A + B - Hepatitis, Typhoid Typhus - Acrinia renalis, Meningitis - Meningitis, Diphtheria over 40 years - Deftérie, Pertussis - whooping, Poliomyelitis - Polio.
For moving around on the north you need a vaccination against yellow fever. And at the entry to Zimbabwe - Victoria Falls against cholera. With a program, where we will enter the malarial areas, you will be warned in advance to get the tablets Maloron, which you will buy in advance. To be protected against mosquitoes you can buy some effective means Tabard or Doom on the spot.

Season
Because Namibia is located on the Southern Hemisphere seasons are completely backwards compare to Europe, so in January is the peak summer and winter peak is in July.

Time zone
Very nice is that in Namibia, is almost identical with our Central time, so there is no problem wit the time shift and also acclimatization. At the time of Central European Summer Time you have to move your watches forward an hour and in winter time an hour back.

Climatic conditions - climate
They say about Namibia that it belongs to the chosen areas where there is almost always sunny, it boasts up to 300 days of sunshine a year. Although, some travel agents argue that it is good for a visit the place through out the whole year, it is definitely not like that. We choose the best time for an ideal stay in Namibia. The winter lasts from July to September. This is the high season for tourists because of the optimal temperature and beautiful green nature, daytime temperatures are around 20-25C °, but at night around zero, and often also some frost. In the spring months, which is from September to November is the day temperature around 30-35C °, depending on where are you at that time because on the north the temperatures may be around 45C ° but at night 15-20C°.

Transport
Namibia has a good infrastructure and a good quality of roads, most of them are dusty (about 40,000 km), but well maintained. Of course there are also asphalt roads, but to a lower extent (around 5,000 km). Road Salt traits are by the coast, well passable, but when it is rainy and foggy it is slipping. There are however places where no other than an off-road 4x4 vehicle could pass, especially in the areas of sand dunes, dried-out riverbeds and mountain roads. Roads do not have bridges and usually through the rainy season you have to wade through them. Ways up to the sign C are in good conditions. Although Namibia is the former colony of Germany you drive on the left side here, which could be a problem at first for a European, but when you go in convoy after your guide you will not almost notice.
The asphalt road speed is limited to 120 km / h. The dust roads at 80 km / h for the reasons of frequent incidents of tourists who go there too fast, and they are not used to driving on these kind of roads, and they do not know or do not respect the principles of riding on them - our guide will tell you these principles in advance. A special feature is the intersection where from all sides is STOP and the right of way has the one who came first. Also using the seat belts is an obligatory on all seats. Otherwise there are no more major differences. Apart from that the game can move freely anywhere, especially at dusk and at night is not recommended to drive a car.

Fuels
Filling station network is in relatively good but when we will be in some remote areas of the network it is sparse so you must always have some supply. For finishing to the destination you will need need at least 100 liters, most off-road vehicles have additional tanks or you have to have some canisters. Outside the city, and sometimes even in the city you have to pay by cash. Price for one liter of diesel is around 9.5 N or about $ 24, - CZK or 1 €.

Electricity
The voltage in Namibia uses the AC 220-223V, the same as in Europe but the sockets are three-pole but you can get the reduction in every market.

Telephone network
You will be interest only in mobile network which is modern and the number of smugglers is annually increasing, but there are many places where there is no signal so for safety - for calling the help we recommend a satellite phone, which our guide has. Phone signal is always in the towns and larger villages and tourist centers.

Observations...

Clothing
Clothing should always be adjusted according to the season and expedition you will get the specific instructions in advance from your guide. The main principle is a solid ankle boots and walking sandals, jacket, soft shell jacket, light cotton clothing, it is always necessary to wear a hat and quality sunglasses with darkness No.3.

Camping
Your tent is a place where you will be always safe in this wilderness but you have to have it closed! No animal would ever come to the tent and starts to tear but rather it goes around it in a big circle. It is true that the tent is the safest place, and there never happened something to somebody in a closed tent. But beware of where you build a tent, avoid the trodden paths of elephants and hippos, just trodden paths at all and generally you will avoid any problems. The principle is to have the tent always closed, otherwise you will find inside some beetles and all these things and often even a coyote or hyena ...
The best are tents on the roof they are really 100% safe.

"Danger" in nature - snakes, scorpions and wild beasts...
In Namibia there are many species of snakes which are mostly venomous, some species even deadly. But when you follow the instructions from our guide they will go around you in a big round and you will not even notice that some snake was slithering around you. Because all snakes are scared of any noise and they are running away from danger. In addition accept attacking viper (Bitis arientans), the snakes do not attack humans. That does not mean that you should run barefoot over the savanna and study the various holes and openings in the country because out of them could actually come out some snakes and scorpions and attack you ... Your ankle boots protect you against scorpions.
Fear of snakebite is really unnecessary if you are listening to the principles of the movement in wilderness. After all if something still bites you our trained guide knows how to provide first aid and has viperium.
It is always important to remember how the snake looked like and seek medical assistance because of the antiserum.
As for the game in the wild - savanna, as I have already said when talking about the tent, you must follow the instructions of your guide and then you will remember from Namibia just those wonderful and unforgettable moments. To these areas where the animals live freely you should not go without a guide so if you go alone you can see the wild game in Etosha National Park.

"Danger" in civilization
If you compare other African countries there comes the true that Namibia is 'another Africa', because Namibia is one of the safest countries in Africa. Unlike in South Africa you do not have to be afraid of getting out from a tourist resort after it gets dark and when you go to the city or savanna the aborigines do not even notice. The police over here really know what "to help and protect" means and unlike to the other states they will not enforce unreasonable fines or bribes from you. Of course, that in the cities you have to lock your cars, and behave as in other European cities. Crime is almost an unknown thing outside the cities.

Photography
In addition to all those experiences that you will have from Namibia in your memory or your heart you will also want to take some photographs as an evidence and we therefore recommend a really good camera, possibly with interchangeable lenses - wide-angle landscapes and telephoto. For the wildlife you should even have a tripod. You should have either enough memory or external memory cards or notebook. There is easy to take 2000-3000 shots in a very short time. You will see that this is totally worth it! Even if you do not want to invest so much money into this or if you are not so good in taking photos do not worry, after your return you will get a DVD with photographs from he entire expedition from us. The guide also has the inverter 220 and your things can be recharged while driving.

Purchases of food and alcohol
Shops - Shopping centers in the cities of Windhoek, Walwis Bay, Swakopmund, Luderitz, Otjiwarongo and Rundu all these you can possibly compare to the European standard. There is a wide range of food that is reasonably comparable to the price in Europe. In terms of meat, everyone can choose a meat because it is excellent and has a good quality. There are delicious beef steaks and also meat from the game especially from antelope kudu and eland. By the coast we can enjoy eating the delicious oysters and fish. The local specialty is a dried meat which is sliced to strips - Biltong, which is very nutritious and is ideal as a daughter in the car. It is one of the few countries where you can buy dark bread. In smaller villages and settlements you can get only some basic food. Therefore, you should buy the food in the largest cities - your guide will always tell you for how many days you should buy the food.
Alcoholic beverages are sold in the Bottle Stress. These shops are licensed for selling here everything from beer, to wine and hard liquor from all brands for the same or lower price than in Europe. Beers and wine are sold in supermarkets and tourist lodges.

Health
Health in Namibia is generally very good, especially in big cities like Windhoek, Swakopmund, and Otjiwarohgo. It is important to have extended health insurance. If necessary you would have to be transported by a helicopter because of the distances. If there would be a need for specialists the patients are transported to Cape Town.

Namibia is a republic in the west coast of southern Africa whose western border is the Atlantic Ocean. It shares land borders with Angola and Zambia to the north, Botswana to the east and South Africa to the south and east. It has an area of 824,292 square kilometers and population of 2 million, which represents the lowest population density in Africa. Namibia has gained its independence as one of the last of the African countries in 1990, from South Africa.

In the late 19th century the country was colonized by Germans. German troops and farmers occupied the tribes and confiscated their cattle. In 1904 there was a Herero tribe against colonists but the rebellion was suppressed and after that the result was three years of genocide in which 65 out of 80 000 Herero have died. The rest of them were imprisoned in concentration camps. They had to perform slave labor for the German Reich and a large number of them has perished. Their land was confiscated by the imperial decree and was divided among the white farmers.

Since 1915, when South Union occupied the previously German colony, the administration was only in the hands of government in Pretoria, even though South Africa has never connected the region of de iure. White residents of South West Africa were represented in the South African Parliament. Since 1926, there were the Legislative Assembly, which was represented by the National Party and the Association of German Southwest Africa but for the indigenous population there was no active and passive suffrage. South African Department of Bantu Affairs has been in very limited contact with the local tribal chiefs.

Namibia has declared its independence on the 21st March 1990 - so it is for over 18 years a country with a stable government. Because of the independence Sam Nujoma was elected to be a president by National Assembly. Political developments in Namibia are a clear sign of dominance of one party that is not threatened by the opposition.

Namibians are mostly members of a tribe called Ovambs (50%) other strains are represented on a very low level. 75% of Namibians are literate, and almost 82% of the population are Christians (mostly Protestants).

Namibia has quite a decent network of roads which were built by the German colonists. Later it was modernized in the 80s by South African workers. The port called Whale Bay (Walvis Bay) is very important for importing and exporting most of the goods. This country is a major producer of diamonds but also zinc, uranium, silver and other ores. GDP has reached 2500 USD per capita which is very extraordinary for the African conditions. The international trade is closely linked to South Africa and Commonwealth countries.
